Nepristi: Second in Command of the Starling

go to top of page

Summary

The second in command of the Starling. An experienced pirate, having captained a ship previous to being captured by the Conquest. Nepristi is devoted to their crew, and considers them family that they would protect at the cost of their own life.

History

Nepristi has no memories of their life before around age 9, when they were found by a pirate ship and taken in as part of the crew. The ship was run by some kind adult pirates who took in abandoned children across the galaxies and raised them. During their childhood, they were surrounded by other kids.

They showed a natural talent for pirate life, learning quickly all that it took to run a ship. This led to them being voted to be captain by age 16.

One day, their ship was raided by the Conquest. Nepristi was taken prisoner with the intent of being used for experiments and labor, and their crew was killed.

After a few weeks of being transferred between Conquest ships, they were found by a conquest medic, Haven, who made the decision to defect, and break Nepristi out. During the escape, they came across Aritza and Darift, who let them join the crew on the Starling.

Appearance

Appearance Description

Personality

Nepristi gives off an intimidating aura accentuated by their initially stoic demeanor. They are often sarcastic, and over time this sarcasm evolves into outright sass. They do not like talking about themself, but will answer questions when prompted (with some exceptions). Over time they do begin to open up more to the crew.

Despite being reserved initially, they are incredibly confident in themself. As the story progresses, they stand up for their values more stubbornly, leading eventually to conflicts between them and Aritza. Despite this clash, they respect Aritza as captain and defer to his decisions when the situation requires.

Abilities/Skills

Strong morals:
Nepristi is able to make solid decisions under pressure and maintain their composure when quick action is required. They have rigid morals with regards to the safety of the people they’re in charge of, and so they do not dwell on decisions when that could be detrimental.

Spaceship navigation:
They are well acquainted with the basics of piloting space vessels and using charting equipment, and are able to maintain a stable course when necessary.

Above-average strength:
Due to being a starmerrow, they have a greater bulk than the majority of species in the conquered galaxies. They also make sure to train themself to maintain their physical strength.

Starmerrow transformation:
Nepristi has the ability to transform into a large stingray shaped creature that can travel in the void of space. They use this to help the Starling adjust course and to assist other crewmates during spacewalks. They can only maintain this transformation for a short time, and it seems to drain them emotionally.

Intimidation:
Nepristi’s large and imposing stature is usually enough to intimidate most. But combined with their quiet demeanor and intense aura they can become outright scary if they try.
